2018 Fuding Premium Shou Mei Longevity Eyebrow White Tea Cake
Fuding county, Fujian province is the home and true origin of the current renaissance of China's renowned white tea. This tea comes from the heart of Fuding's core producing region of Dian Tou town. Victoria visited the company’s exporting base tea garden, an organically managed tea garden according to European standards (see pic below). The founder, Mr. Zhang, is also a designate of Fuding White Tea heritage by the Chinese government authority.
Shou Mei is the third category of white tea (others are Silver Needles and White Peony). With its own tasting character, it is beloved by many tea drinkers for its great taste and inexpensive price tag. As it ages, the taste becomes smoother and sweeter. Not all teas are created equal, and this is especially true for this Shou Mei. The wrapper of this tea cake is written in red, signifying a higher grade from this well-known tea company.
Just by appearance, Shou Mei is not one of the most attractive tea cakes out there. But its true essence, as discovered through steeping, produces a pleasant tea drinking experience. This tea is hand-picked with one bud, three to four leaves in late spring, 2018 and traditionally processed and pressed into cakes in the fall 2018. It is floral, very clean and smooth, sweet, palpable of dates flavor, producing a quick and strong huigan that is an indication of a well-made Shou Mei white tea. What is more, it is easy to brew and forgiving. It is certainly stands out among its peers on the market. A great every day tea for all seasons.
