This tea hails from Feng Qing, Lincang, Yunnan. Feng Qing is one of the main Pu-erh tea growing regions in Yunnan, China. It is home to “the Mother of Pu-erh Trees,” a tree estimated to be more than 3,200 years old.

Tai Hua tea was a famous tea in Feng Qing during ancient times, having gained notoriety from the book “The Travel Dairies of Xu Xia Ke” by the great geologist and writer Xu Xia Ke (徐霞客) of the Ming dynasty era. In this book Xu recorded the story of his temporary stay at an elder lady’s home in Gao Jian Chao Village of Feng Qing County where he was graciously given the delicious and comforting Tai Hua tea.

This tea was a 2015 harvest from local Feng Qing ancient trees. 2015 was an especially good year for Pu-erh tea harvesting and processing. After eight years of aging, the dry leaves smell wonderfully aromatic with a sweet sugarcane note. The liquor is very clean and clear golden yellow, tastes very smooth and mellow, with very little astringency and a long-lasting sweet aftertaste. It produces a high amount of saliva in the mouth (生津), which is indicative of a high quality tea. This tea is truly a great value.
