This classic treasure ying qing porcelain gaiwan comes from Jingdezhen, the porcelain capital of the world. It is well-designed, use authentic high quality clay produced at a local top studio. It is carved and painted with five bats and an auspicious cloud pattern, which are regarded as important symbols for bringing blessings and prosperity in Chinese culture. The Chinese pronunciation of "bats" is the same as auspiciousness or happiness, and bats are  a favorite to incorporate on traditional Chinese porcelain ware, and especially so during the Qing dynasty. Five bats alludes to "five happiness" 五福, most commonly known as longevity, auspicious, peace and health. The base also features painted ocean waves, alluding to the traditional saying of "happiness as boundless as the eastern sea", by Fu Ru Dong Hai (福如东海) in Chinese. It is a well-made brewing vessel and a specialty art work with a blessing meaning. It is worth noting that it has a wide rim on the body, making it very forgiving and easy to hold in your hand, which makes brewing your tea a much easier process. Also the size is a great all around piece for brewing all types of tea. All in all, this gaiwan is a great art work and investment, or as a special gift.
