Jingdezhen Wood-fired Octagon and Heptagon Master Teacups Hand-crafted 柴烧主人杯
These unique heptagon and octagon tea bowls are an original artwork from a top creative studio in Jingdezhen. It is especially notable since most of the other studios in Jingdezhen are currently mimicking the great porcelain works of the Ming and Qing dynasties. The heptagon-sided cup illustrates the significance of the number seven, which is commonly associated with religious beliefs in both western and traditional Chinese cultures. The Chinese regard seven as the total of the two elements of Yi-Yang and the Five elements of Metal, Wood, Water, Fire, and Earth, and it represents harmony and good fortune. The octagon cup has eight sides. The number eight is an especially preferred number as it is closely associated with good fortune and auspiciousness in Chinese culture.
The artist used the classic shape Chan Ding (meaning Zen meditation) as the inspiration for his creation and wood-fired the cup to bring out the earthy tones and achieve greater radiance in the finish. As a result, the changing color and pattern gives this cup diversity and makes it more appealing. Due to environmental concerns, wood-firing is strictly regulated by the local government. The classic shape holds comfortably and sturdily in the hand. It is a spectacular piece for your daily tea life and a worthy addition to your teaware collection.
