This is a beautiful tea with a romantic name, the highest grade of Moonlight White tea. It comes from Lin Cang county of Yunnan province, China. Yue Guang means moonlight, bai means white. It is a particular style of tea similar to Fuding white tea but also resembles puer tea. There are several versions regarding the origin of the name of this tea. Some say it comes from the production method, as it is withered under the moonlight. Some claim it is due to the tea's appearance as the buds and leaves are pure white on the outside (like a crescent moon), and black (sometimes dark green) on the other side.
The buds and leaves are plucked in March and April in the early morning under the moonlight. The picking standard is one bud to one or two leaves, with the buds very fuzzy. Like white tea, it involves a process of withering and drying, very similar to Fuding white tea. It sometimes is pressed into a cake for easier transportation and storage. Without pressing the leaves into a cake, you get to see the beautiful whole buds and leaves all together.
