Description

Mahei village is one of the seven famous Pu-erh villages in the core Pu-erh-producing area of Yiwu township, Xishuangbanna. Yiwu was the tribute tea for Qing royals. It used to be called "Da Lu Bian" , meaning "by the road" in Chinese. It was the first village where caravans would take a break on the tea horse road in the old days. At that time, the horse carriages left from Yiwu in the morning, and by the time they reached this village, it was dusk, thus they started to call this village Mahei, meaning dusk. Unlike most villages in Yiwu township, the Han people (the majority Chinese ethnicity) reside in Mahei.

Mahei tea is regarded as one of the core representative of Yiwu Pu-erh flavors, known for its all-around balanced taste and great aging properties. Victoria was very pleased to finally get this tea during her 2023 trip to Yiwu. She has been to Mahei village several years in a row since 2016, but hadn't purchased it in any prior years due to her high standard for quality and taste. This tea is harvested from arbor trees that are organically grown in the pristine Yiwu mountain, without the use of pesticides or chemical fertilizers. The design of the cake wrapper is inspired by the village for which this Pu-erh tea is known.

This tea is very floral, full-bodied, mellow, and delicate liquor, has a strong substantial mouthfeel,. One can feel the Cha Qi that comes from the high mountain forest. The dry leaves are dark and radiant. This tea offers the typical characteristic Yiwu taste profile, a great tea for Pu-erh lovers to get to know Yiwu region Pu-erh tea.

Our brand features 100% pure leaves from the village. No blends, mixes, or intermingling of leaves from other areas or with inferior Pu-erh leaves, which is unfortunately all too common in the Pu-erh tea market.

    Perfect Everyday Puerh

"In the beginning, this is such a nice, easy-drinking puerh that you can enjoy everyday without feeling like it's getting old. When I saw the age, I was very surprised it didn't have the fresh, astringent taste so typical of young puerhs. Instead, I was greeted with a nice, juicy tea with a fullness of flavor that isn't overpowering in any particular direction. It's a nice tea that doesn't distract you with some strong, specific flavors, and as a result, you'll never grow tired of it. The real magic, however, comes out for those who like their marathon sessions. After 12 infusions today, I'm not sure I succeeded in tapping this tea out. It certainly seemed like it was capable of delivering more. But the thing I liked the most is that the later infusions, especially starting around 5+, seemed to take on a honey-like sweetness. I don't want to make it sound like it's some kind of concentrated sweetness -- not at all -- just an interesting, tasty sweetness to it. It's hard to explain, but it paired perfectly with a macaron."

    Ancient tea tree

"This tea has a profound charm only found in ancient tea trees, the taste is broad and full, and the aroma is high and balanced"
