Heritage Dragon Kiln Wood-Fired Variable Glaze Teacup
These exquisite tea cups are the creation of renowned pottery master Yang, crafted by hand in his studio in Lingcang, Yunnan, a region with a rich history of pottery-making that spans centuries. Mr. Yang, a graduate of Jingdezhen Ceramic University, has honed his skills under the mentorship of several esteemed masters in Jian Shui before established his own studio. He is recognized by the Yunnan provincial government as a designated inheritor of the region’s intangible cultural heritage.
The clay used in these cups is sourced from the rich, local soil of Yunnan, known for its natural deposits of red, yellow, purple, white, and brown minerals. For these particular cups, white clay was carefully selected for its fine quality. Each cup is wood-fired in a historic dragon kiln that dates back to the Qianlong era of the Qing Dynasty, over 280 years ago. This traditional method of firing, using pine wood, is notably more challenging than modern, power-assisted kilns. The kiln reaches temperatures up to 1300°C and requires at least 25 hours of continuous wood-firing to achieve the unique colors and textures that define these pieces.
The cups are crafted in the classic Yuan Rong shape—round and harmonious—designed for a comfortable grip and an elegant presence on your tea table. With an 80 - 120ml capacity, the cup features a delicate white drop that flows gracefully downward, evoking imagery of a man’s tie or, more romantically, a feather drifting through the autumn forest. The intriguing color variations in the glaze capture the imagination and invite reflection, adding an element of wonder to each sip of tea.
Capacity: 80ml and 120ml with some variations on pattern due to firing.
