Award-winning Wuyi Rock Oolong Tea Big Red Robe Da Hong Pao

Da Hong Pao, or “Big Red Robe,” is one of the most celebrated teas of Wuyi Rock Oolong. The legendary mother bushes are preserved on the rocky cliffs of Jiu Long Ke (Nine Dragon Nest) in the heart of the Wuyi Mountains and are no longer commercially harvested. Today, Da Hong Pao is most commonly crafted as a carefully composed blend of select Wuyi cultivars, created to express the depth, fragrance, and distinctive yan yun, “rock rhyme” for which this iconic tea is known.

Because the composition and craftsmanship can vary, Da Hong Pao offers a remarkably broad spectrum of aromas, flavors, and styles. This particular tea, crafted by skilled tea master Liu, is an especially elegant expression, with beautiful floral and ripe-fruit aromas layered over the characteristic mineral depth of Wuyi Rock Oolong.

The liquor is clear with a warm reddish-amber hue, smooth and full on the palate, with a pleasing mineral texture and naturally sweet, fruity character. A lingering sweetness and fragrance remain long after each sip, revealing greater depth through successive infusions.

An inviting yet beautifully nuanced Da Hong Pao, this tea is an excellent way to explore the distinctive character of Wuyi Rock Oolong and the remarkable craftsmanship behind one of China’s most renowned tea traditions.

Each packet/pao weighs 8.3g, a standard volume for gongfu tea brewing with tea to water ratio of 120ml.
