Guo Yuan Teapot  -  A Tribute to Harmony and Self-Cultivation

Shaped like a fruit, this teapot is named "Guo Yuan", which literally translates to "Fruit Garden" in English. In Buddhism, however, Guo Yuan carries a deeper meaning:

  • "Guo" represents the fruit of self-cultivation—one’s achievements through personal growth.

  • "Yuan" signifies the root or foundation—symbolizing the fundamentals of inner development.

Together, Guo Yuan reflects a sense of harmony, understanding, and spiritual depth.

This teapot is a reproduction of one of the eighteen classic teapot designs created by the renowned Qing Dynasty intellectual and artist Man Sheng. This specific style was originally crafted by the famous potter Yang Pengnian (杨彭年) and has been faithfully recreated by Master Wu, a senior artisan certified by China’s Arts and Crafts Authority.

Design features:

  • A rounded, full-bodied form with a gracefully arched lid

  • A straight spout with a short neck, topped with a round bead

  • Intricate calligraphy inscribed on the body, translating to:
“Within lies the pearl of wisdom from self-cultivation, keeping one from withering and decay, becoming one of the immortal Confucianists.” (中有智珠,使人不枯,列仙之儒。)

An imitation of Man Sheng's signature is also engraved on the far left of the teapot.

Made from authentic Zisha clay, this teapot enhances tea flavor over time. With regular use, it develops a natural glaze that reflects the color of the teas it brews—a process known as “Yang Hu” (literally "raising the teapot"). This transformation is cherished by tea enthusiasts as part of the joyful ritual of tea appreciation.
