Artisan Jian Shui Purple Clay Teapot Inscribed Carving Mountainside

Jian Shui Purple Clay Pottery is one of the four famous classes of Chinese pottery. Jian Shui clay is extracted from the local "five color" mountain, as the soil has abundant deposits of red, yellow, purple, white, and brownish clay content, referred to by the locals as "Wu Se Tu", meaning five color soil. Iron is the richest element in this clay, so a lot of Jian Shui teapots are black.

This beautiful teapot represents the modern style of Jian Shui purple clay teapot. The artist applies the traditional technique of carving and clay-filling to display their artwork on the teapot, but with more vivid imagery and a wide spectrum of colors. Distant mountains are beloved classic subjects in ancient Chinese paintings and arts. The style of this clay-filling art is inspired from traditional composition, but with contemporary elements.
