Description

Chao Zhou is the home of Phoenix Dan Cong oolong tea, and the origin of the gongfu tea brewing style. Chao Zhou has long history of making zhu ni teapots and water kettles that use the local red clay from Feng Xi (枫溪) town outside of Chao Zhou city. Red clay is very fine and has elasticity that potters leverage to shape the teapot by hand on a wheel. Due to the renascence of phoenix dan cong oolong tea in the last decade, Chao Zhou red clay teapots have rapidly gained in popularity and that have gained appreciation as the craftmanship improvement and more talented artists join the workforce.

This teapot is hand crafted by master Cheng Zhu, who is a certified master artist sanctioned by the Chinese governing authority and has won many national awards for his works. He is also the recipient of Guangdong Master Level Pottery Artistry award. This teapot use the Da Hong Pao clay from Feng Xi that is a more delicate high quality Zhu Ni clay. It generates more smooth and refined appearance than that of regular red clay.

This teapot has a thin body with a classic Shui Ping shape. Shui Ping means "level like water" in English. This shape originated in Chaozhou where Phoenix Dan Cong gongfu tea was developed.  These teapots exhibit extraordinary balance when placed in water, hence the name. Shui Ping Hu teapots usually have a straight spout, and are a popular choice for gongfu tea sessions.
