Description

Xiao Hu Sai village belongs to the Big Snow Mountain ridge (大雪山) of Mengku, Yunnan. Standing nearly 3300m high (+10,000 ft) and towering over Mengku valley, the summit hides a majestic environment — lush, pristine forests furnished with numerous ferns and enough lichen to sustainably nourish the rich biodiversity. Xiao Hu Sai village is situated on the western side of this ridge, well known for its large reserve of ancient pu-erh tree reserve in Licang area.

Due to the recent years of high demand of Mengku Pu-erh tea, Xiao Hu Sai has quickly gained fame for its high quality, ancient tree Pu-erh tea. Victoria first visited this village on her 2016 tea trip, but didn’t secure the ancient tree Pu-erh tea she was searching for. She went back again the next year and got the charm.

This tea is very fragrant, smooth, has strong honey note and hints of nutmeg, almond, vanilla, with a strong aftertaste or huigan. It possess a slightly tannic component, has a strong Cha Qi.

Calm energy from gushu material.

"The striking thing about this tea, is that it creates a sense of calm, which is not the norm for most gushu in my experience. The aroma starts out like sugary lotus, and transforms in to toasted marshmallow and finally to an almost fruity sensation. The tea is felt through the entire mouth, with a pleasant coating that lingers. Starts off with the taste of bitter chocolate and fruit skin, then a thick sweetness in later steeps. The first few steeps are slightly bitter but not astringent, which goes away completely as the heart of the tea is reached. This Xiao Hu Sai has a nice level of complexity that was fun to drink, and I believe will age well."

Perfect to Puerh beginners

"I got this tea cake around 2019 Thanksgiving time, opened the tea cake a year later and started making Puerh tea. More used to green tea, I found this cake for Puerh beginners, it is mild with slight fragrant, very smooth feel, gives you instant and lasting warmth in a cold winter morning."

Love

"I steep this Gongfu method at 194-197F and it gives me 15+ steeps. 4g in 150ml Gaiwan. Beautiful notes of floral and honey with a hint of spice. Uplifting Cha Qi. Recommended!"

Really nice

"J love that cake, from gps easy it breaks, to How the Gushu is. I brew it in a JianJui teapot, tastes amazing, has a noce bitter sweet kick to it."

Complex flavor.

"I've had two sessions with this tea 11 months apart. Both times charming and satisfying. 10 or 15 minutes after the last swallow my mouth feels clean and lightly sweet with hints of the complex flavor like a gently tease."

Ok tea

"Given picking time and appropriate price, it's an ok raw pure for those who want a decent affordable tea. But it isn't what I call the tea to get one I to raw pure. It has a distinct bitterness that lingers and mellow a bit if you use a clay pot."
