This beloved traditional deep red glaze called Ji Hong (祭红), is one type of Jingdezhen's traditional single-color glazing styles. This gaiwan used the local authentic glazing material which results in a thick and deep glaze, with a more saturated color and a naturally radiant finish. Not all red glaze porcelain wares are created equal. There are many mass-produced or lower-cost thinly layered red glaze teaware on the market made of chemical glazing materials.  One needs to be especially discerning when choosing these types of teaware.
