Born and raised in Jian Shui, Master Lang Gui refined his skills through years of dedication, including studying traditional wood-firing techniques in Japan. He named his studio Langgui with ironic playfulness—Lang in Chinese can mean "unrespected work" or "unvalued business"—a humble nod to his craft’s underestimated roots.  

This teapot is part of his Wu Xiang series—named after the Buddhist concept of formlessness, representing freedom, spirituality, and the boundless potential of being. Each piece in this series is distinct, embodying the philosophy of limitless expression within a finite form.

Crafting a Wu Xiang wood-fired teapot requires exceptional skill and years of experience, with a notably low success rate due to the unpredictable nature of the process. The local clay in Jian Shui, rich in iron, produces stunning metallic sheens and complex color variations during firing—hallmarks of Master Lang Gui’s signature style.
