2013 Fuding Aged White Tea Shou Mei Cake Longevity Eyebrow
This tea hails from its true origin of Fuding, Fujing province. Fuding and Zhenhe are the oldest and original areas for cultivation and production of white tea. Its production dates back to the early nineteenth century. Fuding has a unique terroir with 90% hilly land, and is credited as the "Home of Chinese White Tea". White tea is now also made in other regions of China. Different terroirs will produce a different quality and flavor, but white tea produced in Fuding and Zhenghe still remain the most sought after white tea.
Shou Mei, (Longevity Eyebrow in Chinese) is picked with one bud, and two to three large leaves. This tea was picked in late April, sun dried and stored, and compressed into cakes in winter for easy storage and transit. As it ages, the taste becomes smoother and sweeter. It is a great every day tea as refreshment and great paired with food.
There is a Chinese saying about Fuding white tea: "year one a tea, year three a medicine, and year seven a treasure". So the more aged the white tea, the more precious it becomes. Aged white tea is not only a valuable tea to drink, but also a great investment.
