Genuine Artisan Yixing Zisha Purple Clay Teapot Shi Piao 石瓢
Shi Piao means “stone scoop” in Chinese. It has a smaller mouth and a large wide bottom, with the main body shaped like a pyramid. It has a straight spout, an arched bridge on the lid, and a triangular-shaped handle. The trapezoid body and the inverted triangle handle wonderfully complete the geometric aesthetics of this piece in perfect harmony, and it is yet practical enough for everyday tea serving and appreciation. The name of Shi Piao is accredited to the most famed potter master Gu Jing Zhou, who first named it “Shi Piao”, as an homage to the ancient Chinese poem, “Three thousand weak waters, only one scoop”.
This Shi Piao is made of Di Cao Qing, one of the original Zisha clays in Yixing, completely hand-crafted by Qian Wei (钱玮), who is a senior artist potter, certified by the national artistry governing body. She was born into a famous Yixing pottery family. Her father is master Qian He Shen, who is the nephew and successor of the most famed master Jiang Rong 蒋蓉. Master Qian apprenticed and learned from his aunt during his tenure at the First Yixing Zisha factory in the 1980s and has been passing on the tradition to the whole family.
Zisha is known to have the ability to enhance the flavor of the tea and become glazed over a period of time. Yixing teapot lovers enjoy the process and regard this process as Yang Hu 养壶.
Capacity: 280ml / 9.2 oz. It comes with a certificate and a beautiful case.
