Jingdezhen Masterpiece Wucai Porcelain Gold Banded Teacup 五彩一鹭攀升红底描金杯
Highlights
This is a true one-of-a-kind original work of art exemplifying supreme porcelain workmanship from a top Jingdezhen's studio. It is hand-crafted and masterfully hand-painted along with Chinese calligraphy throughout the entire cup. The cup incorporates authentic high quality porcelain clay material, is very thin and lightweight, and features decoratively styled gold bands for a luxurious and classy appearance.
The painting is the original work of Zhang Weifeng, who is a member of the Chinese Art and Craft Society, among other distinguished organizations. He specializes in the elaborate flower and birds motif, a branch of porcelain art. In this cup, Mr. Zhang depicts a growing reed by the water and a heron happily standing by to denote traditional blessings of social upward mobility and prosperity. Reeds usually grow fast and tall, and the word for heron is pronounced similar to "road" or "all the way" in Chinese. The artist uses these two subjects to imply that one can rise through the ranks quickly and have a bright future. The artist's meticulous brush strokes detail the reed's puffy plume, as well as the bird and water lily in the water. The gold bands on both the rim and the base are decorated with a traditional auspicious motif. The Chinese characters read "Yi Lu Pan Sheng', meaning "climb through all the ranks". At the end of the script is the artist's name. The cup comes with the artist's certificate.
The cup also used underglaze Wucai to paint a vivid image of the bird and the water lily. Wucai is one of the four porcelain technique styles that uses several colors to decorate the porcelain ware.
