Yunnan Moonlight White Tea Top Grade Yue Guang Bai 月光白

This is a beautiful tea with a romantic name, comes from Jing Gu county of Yunnan province, China. Jing Gu is regarded as produce the best Yunnan white tea. Yue Guang means moonlight, bai means white. There are several versions regarding the origin of the name of this tea. Some say it comes from the production method, as it is withered under the moonlight. Some claim it is due to the tea's appearance as the buds and leaves are pure white on the outside (like a crescent moon), and black (sometimes dark green) on the other side.

The buds and leaves are plucked in early March in the early morning under the moonlight. The picking standard is one bud and one leaf. Like white tea, it involves a process of withering and drying. It sometimes is pressed into cakes for easier transportation and storage. However, without pressing the leaves into a cake, you get to see the beautiful whole buds and leaves all together, and it preserves the flavor when aging.

The tea is very sweet like honeysuckle, mellow and smooth, floral and fruity with notes of fresh apricot, ripe melons, pear, and sweet hay.
