1980s Vintage Junci Porcelain Tea Bowl Official Kiln
The Jun kiln, in Yuzhou, Henan province, is one of the five famous kilns hailing from the Song dynasty about 960-1279 years ago. Jun kiln is renowned for its ever changing glaze. In fact, for good Jun porcelain, no piece looks exactly same as any other due to how they are fired.
This cup was produced in the early 1980's by the state-owned official kiln no.1 factory (later dissolved in 2005), and the results mimic that of the ancient Yuan dynasty Junci kiln. The deep purple splash is a style commonly produced from the Jin to Yuan dynasties and is hard to reproduce with a wood-fired kiln (see a similar example in the auction book picture below). Junci has rich iron component in the soil, so it weighs heavy in your hand yet is comfortable to hold. A vintage piece that is a rare find and that will surely add flare to your tea ware collection.
