Artisan Yixing Zisha Purple Clay Pumpkin Teapot 瓜趣壶
The Chinese teaware community usually names a teapot with melon elements as a "melon/pumpkin fun" teapot. This teapot is expertly handcrafted, mimicking a high profile pumpkin shape. One can imagine a ripe pumpkin with its sprouting and opening leaves, enticing an appreciative eye for admiration. The clay is Yixing Jiang Po Ni (降坡泥), a lesser common clay found in Yixing's mining deposit of Zisha rocky hills. It will surely bring fun and art appreciation to your daily tea enjoyment.
This teapot is completely hand-crafted by Qian Wei (钱玮), who is a senior artist potter, certified by the national artistry governing body. She was born into a famous Yixing pottery family. Her father is master Qian HeShen, who is the nephew and successor of the most famed master Jiang Rong 蒋蓉. Master Qian apprenticed and learned from his aunt during his tenure at the First Yixing Zisha factory in the 1980s and has been passing on the tradition to the whole family.
A new Zisha teapot should be seasoned before use: soak the Zisha teapot in a clean pot, with the water fully covering the teapot, boil the water for a half hour, then carefully remove the teapot, and rinse.
