2023 Yiwu Mahei Arbor Tree Sheng Pu-erh Tea

$ 13.00

Mahei village is one of the seven famous Pu-erh villages in the core Pu-erh-producing area of Yiwu township, Xishuangbanna. Yiwu was the tribute tea for Qing royals. As Yiwu became the sought-after tea, Mahei gained a reputation for its supreme quality, partially also due to its close proximity to Yiwu town. It used to be called "Da Lu Bian" (大路边), meaning "by the road" in Chinese. It lies along the Tea Horse road from Yiwu to Beijing. At that time, the horse carriages left from Yiwu in the morning, and by the time they reached this village, it was dusk, thus they started to call this village Mahei, meaning dusk. Unlike most villages in Yiwu township, the Han people (the majority Chinese ethnicity) reside in Mahei.

Mahei tea is regarded as one of the core representative of Yiwu Pu-erh flavors, known for its all-around balanced taste and great aging properties. Victoria was very pleased to finally get this tea during her 2023 trip to Yiwu. She has been to Mahei village several years in a row since 2016, but hadn't purchased it in any prior years due to her high standard for quality and taste. This tea is harvested from arbor trees that are organically grown in the pristine Yiwu mountain, without the use of pesticides or chemical fertilizers. The design of the cake wrapper is inspired by the village for which this Pu-erh tea is known.

This tea tastes mellow yet has a strong substantial mouthfeel, a full-bodied and delicate liquor. One can feel the Cha Qi that comes from the high mountain forest and the Yun taste in your tongue. The dry leaves are dark and radiant. This tea offers the typical characteristic Yiwu taste profile, a great tea for Pu-erh lovers to get to know Yiwu region Pu-erh tea.

Our brand features 100% pure leaves from the village. No blends, mixes, or intermingling of leaves from other areas or with inferior Pu-erh leaves, which is unfortunately all too common in the Pu-erh tea market.
