The story:  Liu Hai Fishing a Golden Toad

The Chinese folk legend says that Liu Hai, was once a poor young man living by a well and a man of good virtue. He eventually fishes for a golden toad, gets its coins and thus becomes rich. This whole painting gives us a bright and joyful feeling through this vivid image of Liu Hai in a traditional orange garment with a bunch of gourds (Fulu, representing auspiciousness in Chinese) on his waist, in a playful and acrobatic motion. The toad opens its mouth and spits out the coins. That is said, Liu Hai plays with toad, and fetches coins every step.

刘海戏金蟾,步步钓金钱.

The work: Figure painting on the small porcelain teaware requires decades of training and talent with the deep understanding of Chinese literature and culture. To depict a vivid image of the beloved story, this work incorporates Wucai (五彩) porcelain technique.  Wucai is a traditional Jingdezhen porcelain style with a range of multiple colors on the surface. It is one of the four major porcelain decoration styles that have developed since the Ming dynasty.

This teacup holds very comfortably in the hand. Either on your tea table or on prominent display, this collectible piece will surely add contentment and joy to your tea appreciation.
